What is IPL and C-IPL? Are they different?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is one of the most common and reliable permanent hair removal methods around the world. This technology has since improved over time since the use of clinical IPL in the 90s. Moving forward, we have the first home use IPL handset - the first generation handset in the year 2018. This variation of light therapy is designed to be used in the form of a handset at home.

Think of it as a take away version of a clinical/ salon grade IPL, where you can use it anytime and anywhere without any professional help or additional costs.

Calibrated - Intense Pulsed Light (C-IPL) is the modified version of IPL, where its light spectrum is at its safest to carry out hair removal treatment safely and effectively at home by users because of its optimal, strong energy output and where NO Harmful UV rays are being emitted. It is safer as a home use appliance and it is safer for our eyes and skin.

What is the upgrade in the new SHERO ICE handset?

As per our users’ requests and feedback, the new SHERO ICE hair removal handset has:

Cooling Feature

It soothes and cools the area following each flash during our treatment!
To minimize discomfort and irritation for sensitive areas (i.e. bikini/brazillian or underarm)
To alleviate the normal “rubber band snapping” sensation when using a higher setting on a normal IPL handset; and to allow users to use a higher setting to target the stubborn hair follicles more effectively and comfortably.

Upgraded Ventilation system

The New SHERO ICE handset has a better built- in cooling fan and improved ventilation system to dissipate heat better during the treatment. This means, you can go longer with your treatment time without heat building up in the device too quickly!

Front facing LCD screen

With the LCD screen built in front instead of the rear, users can keep track of the remaining flash count and settings easily. A new, unused handset should have a full 999,999 flash counts!

What is in the SHERO Handset Box?

How does it work?

Just like all light based treatments, C-IPL works by emitting a multi spectrum light into the skin. The light is absorbed by the pigments in the hair and quickly turns to heat. The heat then travels down along the hair and targets the hair follicles responsible for hair growth, putting these follicles to sleep! With enough treatment, sticking to the recommended treatment plan and settings, visible results can be achieved in 6 - 8 weeks.

Is it safe?

Adhering to the recommended standard set by FDA, the light wavelength emitted by SHERO handset is calibrated to 580nm-1100nm which is perfect for targeting hair follicles at the average depth in our skin. The light emitted by SHERO’s C-IPL hair removal handset has been properly calibrated and refined from its light sourced hair removal predecessors, there is no harmful UV light being emitted. Therefore, it is safe for home use, skin and eyes. With that being said, we still advise our users to put on their shero glasses and read the precautions before beginning the treatment.

Is it painful?

There is no pain in using the handset. Some normal sensations described by our users are “rubber band snapping sensation” which only happens to some people (depending on the skin’s sensitivity and pain tolerance) when they use a high setting like level 4 or 5. Now with the Shero ICE, the cooling plate acts as an ice compression after every flash. This cancels out the warm lingering sensation that the conventional IPL gives. There are 5 levels of power intensity to choose from. New users can start by using level 1 and gradually increase up to level 5 according to their own comfort.

Treatment

How long will it take before I start seeing results?

Most people begin to notice a reduction of hair growth (patchy, hairless spots) and finer hair or slow regrowth, just after 6 - 8 weeks. Significant differences can be seen after 8 - 12 weeks. We recommend users to use according to the guideline provided in the user manual for the course of treatment to be the most effective.

Results may vary from person to person depending on the coarseness of hair, hormones and skin tones.

What area of my body can I use a SHERO handset on?

You can use your handset on ANY parts of your body, including your bikini areas and face as long as the skin tone is suitable (Refer to the skin tone chart below). Just be sure to NOT use it close or directly to your eyes.

Areas to be avoided are:
Tattoo, large moles and dark birthmarks
Eye area: eyebrow, under eye
Nipple, areola
Labia Minora
Inflamed acne area
Plastic surgery area

Do I need to shave before using it?

Yes! You should shave the treatment areas before using your SHERO handset and keeping the hair length between 1-3mm before shero-ing is best recommended.

This means NO waxing, plucking, threading or epilating because we do not want the entire hair root and follicles to be removed from the skin. If we remove them entirely from the skin, we will have to start the SHERO treatment from zero again. This is because new follicles will be formed to replace the ones that are removed from the skin.

The goal is for light energy to reach the hair follicles quickly and efficiently without letting the energy go to waste by heating up the entire strand of hair; shaving reduces the hair to an appropriate length!

Do I need eye protection?

Our handsets have NO harmful UV rays. Be sure to not point the flash window in the direction of your eyes. The brightness of the flash would be tolerable when you’re operating it in a lit room. That being said, you should never look directly into the light as it flashes. To further protect your eyes from the brightness, we provide eye protective glasses and recommend wearing them during treatment.

Does SHERO Hair Removal Handset work for all skin tones?

IPL or C-IPL works by emitting light energy that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicles. Melanin is what makes our skin and hair dark in colour. Skin with dense melanin are not advisable to use it as the pigment in the skin might absorb the light energy rather than the hair follicles.
